"Bare them no secret, tell them no truths, or pain and terror shall be your bedmates, and death the least of you fears."
"He will find you. He always finds the ones he wants. He's already begun the hunt. He'll make you his, just like our mothers."
"Fee, fye, foe, fin, I caught the scent of a sweet siren. Fey, fye, fah, fing, I'll pluck her feathers and make my bird sing."
The Lowdown
Callypso is a bad ass siren that owns her own business with her best friend, Temperance. Everything thing is looking good in her life, well, except for the black beaded bracelet that stretches up her arm, each one a magical IOU from the Bargainer. IOU's he never forgets to collect in a timely manner and when he comes to collect ,there are only two choices: pay up or die.
The Bargainer is a man from Callie's past and just so happens to be the Fae King of the Night. One night he shows up in her room, dredging up past feelings and bad memories, to start collecting on Callypso's debt. Something in the other world is kidnapping fae warriors and sending them back in glass caskets with a baby clutched to their breasts. He left her years ago and now he needs her help. What could possibly go wrong?!
Written from Callie's POV, first person.
The Feels
Temper and Callie are best friend goals! Everyone girl needs a Temper in her life, she got your back no matter what. That needed to be stated lol!
I loved the book. The author took us on a deep dive into the characters and still left some mystery for you. The book goes back and forth from the past to present to show what happened to lead to the present. I like the whole outlook on the book and the magic used. Not many books are about sirens and I'm still trying to figure out what Temperance is!! A girl was hoping for a hint the whole book, but nada. The chemistry between Des and Callie is hot, hot, hot, so get ready! This book is a little dark (review content warnings) so it may not be for everyone, but it's a good read so check it out. Don't forget to check out Laura Thalassa and her other books because her imagination is overflowing! Look down below for another rec.
Some of my favorite quotes:
"Fuck you, mouth. Fuck you to the fiery pits of hell."
lol, that's the 'why the heck did I just say that' moment
"Des didn't happen to glow every time he used them, nor did he try to dry hump the object of his glamour like the siren in me did, that horny bitch."
"I'm fucked in every way but the one I'd actually enjoy."
